First graders should check out 3 books weekly and return them to school on his or her library day. Sometimes these books might seem too easy (that's ok-have your child read to you) or too hard (you can read to him or her).
Great first grade series: Henry and Mudge (Rylant), Fancy Nancy (O'Connor), Froggy (London), Nate the Great (Sharat), Ivy&Bean(Barrows) and Mercy Watson (DiCamillo).

Progress Reports are issued in March and June in Special Area classes. In grade 1 your child will be assessed in the following areas:

Students can identify title, author and illustrator of a book.

Students recognize that alphabetization is one of the organizing characteristics of the library.

Students can identify the general location of fiction and nonfiction books in the library.

Students can distinguish between fiction and nonfiction books by characteristics.
